The Rubber Met The Road

At Wednesday's (June 19, 1996) Citizenship swearing in ceremony the rubber met the road for Lois Lopez of San Jose. "Today I finally made that most important step of my life: I am a U.S. citizen and have registered to vote Reform," says Lopez.

Lois, a civic minded immigrant from Belize has spent the last few years teaching new immigrants english and the voter registration process. So passionate is she on this issue that she has put together a training video for new voters.

"The process of voting is very complicated and intimidating to an immigrant; therefore, I have developed a video which has made it very simple for new voters," continues Lopez. Together with help from Valli Sharpe-Geisler, this informative video will help the community immensely at voting time.

In the future Lois hopes to do workshops to educate as many people as is possible on the voting process. If you want more information .
